古代ギリシアの哲学者。プラトンの弟子。プラトンの「イデア論」を批判し、事物はイメージとしての「形相（けいそう）：エイドス」と素材・構成要素としての「質料（しつりょう）：ヒュレー」から成るとした。形而上学、政治学、論理学、博物学、文学、倫理学、物理学などほぼあらゆる学問領域を対象とし、各分野において体系的な総合を行い「万学の祖」と呼ばれた。著書は『ニコマコス倫理学』『形而上学』『弁論術』『詩学』『政治学』『自然学』『エウデモス』『饗宴』『恋愛論』『オルガノン』『霊魂論』等。
