ソクラテス

[469 BC - 399 BC]

古代ギリシアの哲学者。生きた言葉は死んだ会話とは異なるとしたため著書はなく、弟子のプラトンやクセノポンらの著作を通じて知られる。自分は何も知らないが、そのことだけは少なくとも知っているとする「無知の知」を説いた。逃れ得たにも関わらず、法は法として死刑を受け入れ、自ら毒杯を仰ぎ死を遂げた。
